He will make YOUR enemies YOUR footstool

Yesterday on my train journey from one end of the country to another the Lord caused me to see a truth which is profound, because it talks about the process of WHY Jesus has been “kept” in heaven and what it means practically speaking.

Jesus has been in heaven now 2000 years and it seems many of us are beginning to question some of the end time teaching. What we know is that Jesus is coming back as King and Lord. Who has Him now reigning as Lord in their hearts will find that easy, those who have had issues, major issues could be an uncomfortable day.
The whole reason Jesus is still in heaven is because He wants to make His Enemies, which are our enemies, the footstool. What is means in short, that instead of having one or two victories, then a series of counter attacks by the devil, we move into a time of corporate subduing of the enemy.
I see this as an opening into REVIVAL, whether it be personal or corporate. What enemies are plaguing you today? Is it in your health? Is it in your finances? Is it in your family? Is it in your marriage? The Lord is seeking in our lives to bring those enemies UNDER US to serve us. We know that the first step to this is our SALVATION BY OUR FAITH. The second rung of this subduing ladder, is our water baptism, then Baptism in the Spirit, and so forth. What this means is that today God wants to exercise some of HIS AUTHORITY in you to bring some of those enemies under your feet, and make them a personal servant for your own permanent position alongside Jesus.
What we really know is, that Jesus is sat at the Right Hand, but so are we, Ephesians2:6 tells us this. But our position is under constant attack, which starts in our mind. Then goes into some of those areas of our lives which God wants to bring overall authority.
But for receiving that authority operating in us, we must be in submission to it…”Submit unto the mighty hand of God, resist the devil and he shall flee…” The key word and condition there is submission. What we see is the Word MIGHTY, which in the Greek is the word KRATOS. This is ultimate AUTHORITY. It means dominion. I heard from a friend of mine from California, Al Houghton, about the 4 levels of power manifest in scripture, the first being dunamis, which is gift, the second, being exousia, delegated authority, the third being Ischuo, being prevailing authority, and finally Kratos, meaning dominion.
I feel that the hypocrisy and duality of our lives comes in when we use our “Greek” inheritance in that we treat our lives by areas, we tend to some areas to the detriment of others. Rather we need to embrace the “Hebrew” mindset, that sees God treat us as a WHOLE. That is if there is any area that is not treated, the whole is still undermined. Therefore, what I am saying by that is, if we are to believe the whole concept that God is taking us to a place where we REST in the victory…like Solomon who rested from his enemies, God is taking us to that place. I believe we go through things and processes, but surely the devil cannot continue to rob our understanding and our faith. This is what is happening. Every time you lack in an area…struggling and stressing, that is lack of victory, and lack of dominion. God does not just want to give us VICTORY…but HE WANTS TO TAKE US INTO OUR REST.
David spoke of a new day…Hebrews 4. This new day is coming to the Body. Its not enough to move in delegated authority, if we stay there…we need to prevail and gain overall dominion. Psalm 18 is all about this, about David’s process to overall dominion. Look at the first verses, he is crying out to God for deliverance, look at the end, he is pursuing the devil. God teaches David the requirements of gaining that dominion which was his right by anointing. You see David received anointing to become King…a throne was prepared for him. He was the chosen king, he was the forerunner of Christ. God brought him to a place of dominion, and at Baal Perazim, God made him subdue his enemy, the Philistines, the scripture says that these never once more lifted their heads. Baal Perazim means: “Lord of the Breakthrough.”
Revelation 1:6 says we have been made KINGS and PRIESTS. So a THRONE has been prepared for us, we have been ANOINTED FOR IT. It is our right…WE HAVE BEEN MADE TO BE…so why aren’t we walking in it? Because the enemy has blinded us…torn us down in our understanding, robbed the revelation and caused us to walk below our station. Its now time to walk in a new understanding, its time to stop walking in our flesh…and call upon our spirit man, that new man, to walk our days out by the Holy Spirit, the ru’ach of God…that wind…that blast of inspiration, and more importantly that communion and wisdom to walk out our DESTINED WALK.
God has determined to put your enemies today UNDER OUR FEET…make them a permanent rest for our feet. It is a corporate destiny, it is a move of God through our lives. Let us embrace it.
Shalom

  1. Russell, I am deeply touched by all I have read here. I have very great respect for your ministry and the word of the Lord through you. Thank you for your example of excellence! I am always available to the Lord to pray for you as he leads.

  2. “For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in god’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declare righteous.” Rom. 2:13

  3. DID NOT UNDERSTAND WHEN I READ THE BIBLE VERSE ABOUT MAKING MY ENEMIES MY FOOTSTOOL, I HAVE CLEAR UNDESTANDING NOW. THANKS

  4. ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”’ It’s my understanding that this scripture is referring to the enemies of the Messiah. The promise here is from the Lord to the Lord Jesus Christ, that He will reign until He (the LORD) have put all of his enemies under His feet.

Scripture tells mankind to love our enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to those that hate you, and pray for those who speak evil about you, and persecute you; etc. Matthew 5:44
Jesus turned to Peter and said “Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s (Matt 16:23).”

“resist the devil” is found in James 4:7 where the apostle James exhorts believers to resist the devil in order to cause him to flee or “run away” from us. Resistance can be resisting or withstanding the temptation to sin. Or it can be an action we take to use the only offensive weapon in the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:13-18), the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. Using the Scriptures to expose Satan’s lies and temptations is the most effective way to strive against and defeat them. Jesus also used scripture against Satan in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Let me know what you think of my comments.

  5. God increase ur Anointing n devine understanding as a gain to Gods children badly threated by the devil.God bless u,sir.

  6. Thank you for the clear meaning of GOD making our enemies a FOOTSTOOL…becoz of the anointing upon us…i appreciate your article which has helped me in my walk with Christ. Thanks

  7. I totally agree with RLee above. This is a promise to Jesus (Psalm 110:1)
A psalm of David. “The LORD said to my Lord, “Sit in the place of honor at my right hand until I humble your enemies, making them a footstool under your feet.”
The Bible teaches us to love our enemies. We are told to “Draw near to God and he will draw near to us. Resist the devil and he will flee. Our command is to “put on” the Whole Armour of God so that we might stand firm and “resist the devil.”
I find that some scriptures references are for the Lord only (And I believe this one is) and for our knowledge only. Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.
For example, we are not to “rebuke” Satan, the Lord rebukes Satan.
    Zachariah 3:2, Jude 1:9
Jude 1:9: But when [even] the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, judicially argued (disputed) about the body of Moses, he dared not [presume to] bring an abusive condemnation against him, but [simply] said, The Lord rebuke you!
So the archangel Michael rebuked Satan in the name of the Father, the same way Jesus did it. Taking careful note of this and other scriptures suggests that directly rebuking the devil is not what we are supposed to do. As far as our responsibility towards the devil is concerned, all we have to do is:
James 4:7 So be subject to God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him], and he will flee from you.
Thanks for the opportunity to comment.

    1. What you need to think about is who is greater Michael the arc angel or Jesus? (Jude1:9) We have “ a better covenant with better promises “ (Heb.8:6) it’s a better covenant because the Holy Spirit no longer just dwells with us, but is in us! (John 14:17) And where is the Spirit of the Lord Jesus at now? In us! And for what purpose was the son of God manifested? “To destroy the works of the devil”! (1John3:8) and he’s still doing that through “the church which is his body”! And he’s given us the keys to do so… Matt. 16:19 “ whatsoever YOU bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever YOU loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven”! I like how the amplified version says it “ whatever YOU DECLARE to be improper or unlawful on earth…. and whatever YOU DECLARE to be lawful on earth…! So we are to be declaring the kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven(Matt.6:10) and destroying the works of the devil just like our master did when he was on earth!
